Karrara is a Kaurna word meaning "stones on the water". This refers to the glacial rocks along the coast at Hallett Cove, and is also the name given to this part of Hallett Cove when it was first developed.

Session Times

Children in South Australia are entitled to fifteen hours of preschool each week. Their preschool year is the 12 months prior to starting school. From 2013 there will be one intake into preschool at the beginning of the school year. We offer one session per week of Transition in the term before commencing preschool to help children become familiar with preschool.

At our Kindergarten you are able to choose which days you would like your child to attend and may also choose from half and full day sessions. We offer you the ability to change your bookings as your child gets older or your situation changes. We offer a full day option with a Lunch Care Program. This is a user- pays service. Our Lunchtime care is not counted in the 15 hours of kindergarten and this allows us to offer the flexibility for parents to choose a half day session in both the mornings and afternoons on each day, as meets their needs.

Morning Sessions 8.30am – 11.30am, Monday to Friday
Afternoon Sessions: 12.00pm – 3.00pm, Monday to Thursday
Full Day Sessions: 8.30am – 3.00pm, Monday to Thursday

Parent Information

We provide teaching and learning experiences that promote child engagement, wellbeing, positive relationships, confidence, literacy, numeracy, physical skills, healthy eating, fitness, thinking skills and creativity.

In our play-based learning environment, we focus on children as unique individuals as well as members of groups. We use child-initiated learning as a vehicle to promote engagement.

We believe a strong, effective partnership between parents and the child's educators optimises children's learning.

In the words of previous parents:

“Quality of teaching at Karrara is excellent! The range of learning activities, variety of experiences and skills gained is fantastic.”

“The teachers are amazing, organised, professional, fun, open to the individual child and what is best for them (the child).”

“Karrara is an outstanding kindergarten and I would recommend it to anyone. The teachers were amazing, caring, embracing and professional. We are so happy we chose Karrara and are very sad to be leaving it.”

And in the words of a kindergarten child:

"I love to go to kindy. I like to play and draw and make friends."
