Can I have a tour of the kindergarten?

Yes, you may ring up and book a tour with the Director Rebecca Harrison on tel:(08) 8381 9154.

When can my child begin kindergarten?

All children must be 4 before the 1st May of their Kindergarten year. This is required to line up with the school entry ages.
Early entry to preschool may be offered to:

  • children with additional needs or disability or both
  • children with significant extenuating family or individual circumstances
  • children with emerging English as an additional language or dialect (EALD)
  • children who are at significant risk due to family circumstances.

The child may attend preschool for up to 6 hours per week in term 4, before the child starts their eligible preschool year. Children accessing early entry may be eligible to access support services.

Can I start my child at the age of 3?

Aboriginal children are eligible to attend preschool after their 3rd birthday. In these circumstances, children may attend for an average of 12 hours per week. At the beginning of the year in which the child turns 4 years of age before 1 May, the child can access their full preschool entitlement.

What days can my child attend kindergarten

The day after the second round offers are sent out you will receive a form to fill out your day preferences. Most families choose 2 ½ days.
Each child is entitled to 15 hours of Kindergarten (5 x 3 hour sessions) in the year before they begin school. At Hallett Cove Karrara Kindergarten we offer 9 choices of sessions.

Sessions can be taken as:

  • 2 full days and 1 half day (1 full day=2 sessions)
  • 1 full day and 3 half days
  • 5 half days

Parents have the opportunity to choose both the configuration of the sessions (half days/full days) as well as the days the child attends. This can be reviewed throughout your child’s year at Kindergarten and changes are possible if there are spaces in the desired sessions, but this is not guaranteed.
Session choice depends on the number of children who can attend in each session, and this is determined by our site capacity and the set staff:child ratio, to ensure a strong duty of care to all children. This also applies to the Lunchtime Care Program.

What are my session choices?

Your choices of sessions are:

  • Morning: Monday-Friday (8:30-11:30am)
  • Afternoon: Monday-Thursday (12-3pm)
  • Lunchtime Care: Monday-Thursday (11:30am-12pm)

When choosing sessions, we ask you to consider the following:

  • You child’s ability to manage the demands of a full day in Kindergarten.
  • Friendship groups.

How do I enrol my child?

You can register your interest to enrol your child with us by using the preschool registration of interest form. This form is also available from us.

Try to register your interest by 30 June, but you can do this any time during the year.

If we can give your child a place with us we’ll send you an offer letter in term 3. You can accept the offer by filling in and sending back the acceptance slip by the due date.
